Karen Dawes has been a Director of PDL BioPharma since June 2003. She is currently Principal, Knowledgeable Decisions, LLC, a pharmaceutical consulting firm. From 1999 to 2003, she served as Senior Vice President and U.S. Business Group Head for Bayer Corporation's U.S. Pharmaceuticals Group. Prior to Bayer, Ms. Dawes was Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Marketing at Wyeth, where she was responsible for worldwide strategic marketing. Prior to Wyeth, she served as Vice President, Commercial Operations for Genetics Institute, Inc., designing and implementing initial commercialization strategies to launch BeneFIX and Neumega, before Wyeth acquired the company in January 1997. Ms. Dawes began her pharmaceutical industry career at Pfizer, Inc., where she held a number of positions in Marketing from 1984 to 1994, including Vice President, Marketing of the Pratt Division. There, she directed launches of Glucotrol/Glucotrol XL, Zoloft, and Cardura. Ms. Dawes also serves as a director of Repligen Corporation. She received a B.A. and an M.A. in English Literature from Simmons College, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
