Julia Theresa "Jojie" Yap has been President of Pacific Internet Philippines, Inc. since 1996. She was among the pioneers of commercial Internet in the Philippines when she established Primeworld Digital Systems, Inc., a local ISP, which entered into a joint-venture with Pacific Internet Pte. Ltd. of Singapore in 1997.
Jojie was President of the Philippine Internet Services Organization (PISO) from 2001-2005, the only government-recognized organization geared towards promoting the use of the Internet and other Internet related services throughout the country. PISO represents the Internet industry in all forums with government, business, the academe, other IT sectors, and the general public.
Jojie was also voted in 2003 as One of the 11 Most Powerful Women in IT by Enterprise Magazine, a monthly publication of WS Computer Publishing Corporation, Philippine Licensee of International Data Group (IDG), and publisher of the Philippine editions of Computerworld, PC World and IT Resource. Jojie was recently nominated by Secretary Virgilio Pena of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) to join its Private Sector Advisory Board (PSAB). Jojie is also a member of the Management Association of the Philippines.
Prior to Primeworld, Ms Yap was Vice President of Citibank Manila for nine years where she worked in areas like risk and relationship management for the Institutional Bank. Ms Yap was also previously with the National Economic Development Authority, the Central Bank of the Philippines and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. She is the current serving President and Board member of the Philippine Internet Services Organization. Jojie graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in B.S. Business Economics Cum Laude in 1983, and from Yale University where she completed her Master of Arts in International and Development Economics in 1985. |
