Joseph Guffey is a member of the firm's Labor and Employment and Product Liability Practice Groups in the St. Louis, Missouri office of Husch & Eppenberger, LLC. Joe's primary emphasis is employment litigation and defending product liability and related personal injury cases. His practice extends throughout the United States. Joe has tried jury cases in ten (10) States, obtaining defense verdicts in all but one case.
Employment. Joe handles cases covering all aspects of employment law issues including age, race, sex, disability, hostile environment, and violation of non-compete agreements. In July 2003, Joe obtained a defendant's verdict in a gender discrimination case tried in Federal Court in Cincinnati, Ohio. On January 13, 2005, Joe obtained from the Federal Court in the Eastern District of Missouri summary judgment on an age and disability discrimination action arising out of a termination decision.
Product Liability and Personal Injury. Joe has tried numerous jury trials involving product liability matters and he has obtained defense verdicts in jury trials in States throughout the nation. Joe regularly handles cases alleging injuries due to defective products including wrongful death cases. His product liability experience includes firearms, ammunition, other industrial products, and failure to warn claims. In March 2004, Joe tried a failure to warn case in Florence, South Carolina in which the jury verdict was substantially lower than the plaintiff's demand. In January 2005, he obtained a defense jury verdict in a negligence liability action involving an alleged toxic exposure that resulted in second degree burns and alleged permanent respiratory problems. On May 22, 2006, Joe obtained a defense verdict in a difficult 2-week jury trial in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin Circuit Court. Plaintiff alleged a traumatic brain injury and was seeking $21 Million in damages. The jury found no negligence by our clients and found Plaintiff negligent and assessed her 100% of the fault.
