Dr. Amaral joined Sontra’s board in May 2003. Dr. Amaral is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Amaral is a practicing surgeon, and Professor of Surgery at Brown University School of Medicine. Dr. Amaral was one of the first surgeons in New England to perform and perfect minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and worldwide he has extensively trained and demonstrated the technique and technology to other surgeons. Dr. Amaral has been a scientific advisor to many surgical companies and together with Sontra’s President and CEO, Dr. Thomas Davison, he co- developed and introduced into surgical practice the UltraCision Harmonic Scalpel which today is a $350 million a year product for Ethicon Endosurgery, a Johnson & Johnson company. Dr. Amaral earned his M.D. degree from the Brown University School of Medicine and his BS degree (Summa cum Laude) from Providence College. |
