Port Bou (Girona), 1943. Doctor in Industrial Engineering by the University of Barcelona School of Industrial Engineers (ETSEIB). Master in Economics and Business Administration by the IESE. Professor at the ETSEIB and the IESE. From 1976 to 1990 he was Chairman of INPACSA, Empresa Nacional Bazán and the Instituto Nacional de Industria. Currently he is Chairman of Miquel y Costas & Miquel, S.A., Chairman of Sociedad General de Aguas de Barcelona, S.A. (AGBAR), Second Vice-Chairman of Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona (la Caixa), Director of Caixa Holding, S.A. and Director of Corporación Alimentaria Peñasanta, S.A. (CAPSA). He holds the Great Cross of the Order of Naval Merit.
Mr. Mercader was appointed Director of Repsol YPF, S.A. by resolution of the Board of Directors on 27th October, 2004, and subsequently ratified and appointed by the Annual Shareholders Meeting on 31st May, 2005. |
