Jorge A. Bermudez, is Chief Executive Officer and President of Citi's Commercial Business Group in North America and Citibank Texas. He is also a member of Citi's Operating and Management Committees.
From 1975 to 1981, he held various positions in Citibank's National Banking Group in New York and Houston, eventually being promoted to Vice President. As Unit Head of Institutional Recovery Management from 1981 to 1984 he was responsible for a number of major corporate restructurings in the United States, Europe, and Latin America. He was named Corporate Bank Head in Venezuela in 1984.
Mr. Bermudez returned to New York in 1986 as the Head of Risk for the Corporate Banking Division in North America. In 1988 he was named Head of Credit Policy for Latin America and Head of Risk for International Banking. In 1990, he assumed responsibility for Global Asset Redeployment and Equity Investments. In 1993 he was appointed President of Citibank Argentina and in 1996 was named Head of the South America Division. He became an Executive Vice President and Head of Global Cash Management and Trade in 1998, joining Citi's Management Committee. In 2000 he started e-Business, Citibank's Corporate Banking Internet initiative.
From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Bermudez was Chief Executive Officer of Citi Latin America. He was responsible for all Citi businesses including the Consumer, Private, Asset Management, and Corporate and Investment Banking.
Mr. Bermudez serves as a Director on the following Boards: Citibank, NA; Citicorp USA; The Council of the Americas. He served on the Board of MasterCard International, LAC 2002 2004; Chairman of the New York Clearing House Steering Committee 2001 2002; Board of the Asociación De Bancos Argentinos 1994 1996; Board of the FEMSA Group (Mexico) 1988 1993; Board of the Siembra Group (Argentina) 1993 1997; and the Northfield Children's Center 1990 1993. Mr. Bermudez serves Texas A&M University on the International Board, College of Agriculture Development Council, Mays Business School Development Council, and the Board of the Association of Former Students.
He holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Texas A&M University.
