John Williams Biography :

In his more than two decades at Compuware John has contributed to the success of the company in a variety of roles. Currently John serves as Senior Vice President Product Solutions.

In this key role John oversees the definition and delivery of solutions messages training and deliverables that support the Compuware Sales and Field Technical Support teams in providing solutions that meet the business needs of the company’s customers. John’s team is responsible for product management product marketing sales direction and field enablement. His team also maintains responsibility for the development and preparation of tools and programs that ensure Compuware customers receive maximum value from their investment in the company’s products.

Most recently prior to this current role John had responsibility for the software products facet of Compuware’s strategic relationship with IBM. He worked with IBM to define the implementation of a multiyear global purchase agreement and guided an IBM task force in identifying opportunities for pilot implementations of Compuware software throughout IBM’s internal IT organization.

In 2003-2004 John managed a small focused launch team responsible for defining and driving coordinated go-to-market programs for Compuware’s strategic business initiatives executing 11 product launches in two years. John and his team also established a Premier Client program to deliver additional value to the company’s largest and most strategic customers.

In 2001 John was instrumental in the restructuring and consolidation of operations for the Vantage product line--relocating it from Silicon Valley to Compuware headquarters. He staffed and led the product management team that transformed a disparate collection of acquired technologies into an integrated high-value product offering.

In the late 1990s John anchored a corporate strategy team. In this role he defined a roadmap for more effective collaboration between Compuware’s products and services businesses initiated a company-wide effort to target e-commerce opportunities and served as IT consultant and account executive for a high-profile commercial construction account.

In the mid-1990s John spearheaded the acquisition of EcoSystems Software the first high-profile acquisition after Compuware’s initial public offering and the initial product in what later became the Vantage product line. As General Manager of the newly-formed Distributed Products Division he managed the technology organization and directed the worldwide launch of the EcoTOOLS product--resulting in revenues of $10 million in the first fiscal year after the acquisition. John also developed the reorganization and integration plan for the worldwide engineering operations of Uniface Inc. after the acquisition of that company.

In the early 1990s as Director of Product Planning and Advanced Technology John managed a design team responsible for all Compuware products as well as a small team of senior architects responsible for technical strategy. In this capacity he defined the product integration strategy for the XA Systems (now part of the File-AID product family) and Centura Software (Xpediter) acquisitions.

In the late 1980s John managed a “clean room” development facility that built Compuware’s File-AID for DB2 product. He also acquired the technology that ultimately evolved into Compuware’s DBA Xpert product.

John graduated from the University of Michigan with dual degrees in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Mathematics. He also did post-graduate work in Computer Engineering at Carnegie-Mellon University.

John started his career in 1980 as a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill New Jersey. From 1982 through 1986 John was a consulting engineer in a small telecommunications consulting firm specializing in the design and licensing of radio and television broadcast microwave and cellular systems.
