John Wiedeman enters his first season as the radio play-by-play voice of Blackhawk hockey.
Wiedeman, 48, had served as the radio play-by-play voice of the Islanders from 2001-02 to 2005-06. Prior to joining the Islanders broadcast team, Wiedeman spent four seasons, as the radio play-by-play voice and Director of Media Relations for the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL. While in Cincinnati, Wiedeman was also a substitute broadcaster for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets. In 1996-97, he served as the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Philadelphia Flyers, a season in which the Flyers advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, Wiedeman was named the Director of Broadcasting, Public and Media Relations for the Muskegon Fury of the Colonial Hockey League in 1992. In August of 1994, he took over the same position with the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League.
An avid hockey player, Wiedeman and his wife, Kelly, have a daughter, Reilly. |
