Mr. Smith is the firm’s Sydney-based Director responsible for Australia and New Zealand. His responsibilities include originating, marketing and structuring of real estate transactions and debt and equity.

Mr. Smith has been Managing Director of Horwath Asia Pacific in Australia for the past six years. In that role he has acted for investors and lenders on hotel and commercial office transactions in Australia and New Zealand with a value exceeding A$2billion (US$1billion). Mr. Smith became Australia’s most experienced real estate receiver during the recession years of the 1990’s - a role which required him to assume de facto ownership responsibility for a large number of hotels and prime office buildings. This experience has since been applied in assisting hotel investors and owners to optimize and realize asset values, through strategic asset management and divestment.

Mr. Smith is also a CPA and a partner of one of Australia’s largest chartered accounting firms. He has a Bachelor of Economics degree and is a member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants.
