John J. Foley received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont, and is a graduate of the Wharton School University of Pennsylvania's Advanced Management Program. Immediately after graduation, Foley's pursuit of a career in Emergency Medicine brought him to Anchorage, Alaska where he served on the Alaska Army National Guard assigned to a Special Forces Unit as an Airborne Medical Specialist.
Foleys car rental career began with The Hertz Corporation in Anchorage in 1978. In his first seven years working for Hertz he received seven progressive promotions which included responsibilities for the Hertz operations in Anchorage Alaska; Monterey, and Los Angeles, California; San Antonio, Texas; and Chicago, Illinois. In 1986 he was promoted to Zone Manager responsible for all Hertz operations in the New England states.
Foley joined National Car Rental in 1989 where he first served as Vice President, Northeast Region. He was then promoted to Vice President, West Region where he was responsible for all operations west of the Rockies, including Hawaii.
Foley joined Dollar Rent A Car Systems, Inc. in August 1995, as Executive Vice President of Operations. He was responsible for developing a corporate infrastructure at Dollar during a period when the company was transitioning its business model from a franchisor to a corporate entity. In his role of Executive Vice President, Foley was also responsible for the areas that included properties, airport concessions, environmental, construction, image & standards, customer service, process redesign and training.
Foley was named Senior Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations for the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. in October 2003 with responsiblility for all of the Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental corporate operations in North America. In August of 2007, Foley took on a new role at the Company as Senior Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Franchise Operations. |
