Mr. Staines specializes in applying economic, financial, and other quantitative analyses in the areas of commercial litigation and public policy. His consulting assignments have focused on valuation of damages in patent infringement, breach-of-contract, and other types of commercial claims. Mr. Staines also has significant experience in the analysis of competition and economic issues arising in antitrust, international trade, and regulatory disputes. A large portion of this work has involved the pharmaceutical industry, in which Mr. Staines has analyzed a wide variety of therapeutic drug markets that include: AIDS, allergic rhinitis, anemia, asthma, attention deficit disorder, various types of cancer, diabetes, diet supplements, various types of heart disease, hepatitis, human growth hormone, local anesthesia, and narcotic pain killers. Other industries of particular focus include: computers, wireless telecommunications, steel pipe, automobiles, uranium production/enrichment, and wood products.
Before joining LECG, Mr. Staines was a Principal at Putnam, Hayes & Bartlett where he managed a variety of litigation matters. Prior to that, he was a Senior Research Analyst at Heiden Associates, where he analyzed the economic impacts of environmental and occupational health regulations, and developed risk assessments related to consumer product safety regulations. Mr. Staines received a B.A. in economics and an M.P.M in public policy from the University of Maryland, and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. |
