Joanne Vos is an associate in the firm’s Real Estate Department and a member of the Environmental Practice Group. Her practice is mostly dedicated to environmental law, toxic tort/asbestos litigation, and municipal law. In 1995, Ms. Vos graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Montclair State University. She received her law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1998. She completed two years of study in the Justice James H. Coleman Worker’s Compensation Inn of Court and has extensive special civil and worker’s compensation trial experience. She is admitted to practice in the state of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (1999). Before she began in private practice, Ms. Vos served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Stephen E. Mochary, J.S.C., for the 1998-1999 term. She has successfully litigated numerous complex environmental matters, based in both equity and non-equity, and predicated upon concepts of general negligence and strict liability within the context of the New Jersey Spill Compensation & Control Act. Ms. Vos has represented clients in both the public and private arenas, and she has served as Special Environmental Counsel to the Township of North Brunswick. She has also represented property owners, individuals, proprietors, and small businesses in insurance coverage disputes, as well as environmental compliance matters prosecuted by local and state authorities. She has also assisted in the coordination of remedial action plans on behalf of large, privately-owned, and regulated businesses including solid waste management and Class B recycling facilities. Ms. Vos is a member of the New Jersey Defense Association (NJDA), where she is currently the Secretary/Treasurer. She will serve as President for the 2009-2010 term. She has previously served as Director for the 2005-2008 term, chair of its Diversity Committee, and chair of its Scholarship and Young Lawyers’ Committees. As a result of Ms. Vos’s leadership in NJDA, the Association created and implemented a formal Diversity Plan utilizing varied initiatives to realize both short and long-term diversity goals. She also authored the Mission Statement for the Women’s Law Committee during her affiliation with the Morris County Bar Association, and she is a member of the Middlesex County Bar Association. As an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Ms. Vos teaches Introduction to Civil Litigation in the institution’s ABA-approved Paralegal Program. She has volunteered for the New Brunswick Outreach Tutoring Program and has judged the Vincent J. Appruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition. In 2004, Ms. Vos received a mayoral appointment to the Hillsborough Youth Services Commission for a one-year term. In 2007, Ms Vos was named a Rising Star in Environmental Law by Super Lawyers® magazine. She is published in the area of environmental law and has lectured on the topics of environmental law, as well as women in the law. In 2006, she coordinated the Professional Liabilities & Ethics seminar, which was co-sponsored by the Diversity Committee of NJDA, the Minorities in the Profession Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA), DRI, and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). Recently, she presented an Update in Environmental Law at the Annual NJDA Convention in Cambridge, Maryland. |
