Jinliang Ma Profile :
Sr. Engineer - Reaction Engineering International

Jinliang Ma Biography :

Dr. Ma has over 10 years of experience in the area of fossil fuel combustion including internal combustion engine, fluidized bed coal combustion, and pulverized coal combustion and gasification. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the Chemical Engineering Department of Brigham Young University, where he conducted researches in the area of soot formation in coal combustion. Prior to joining REI, Dr. Ma spent more than 5 years with Foster Wheeler, where he was a senior engineer at Foster Wheeler's R & D division conducting combustion and gasification related researches, developing in-house software for engineering applications and performing CFD and ASPEN analyses. At REI, he has worked mainly in CFD modeling of large-scale pulverized coal furnaces, evaluating NOx reduction strategies such as low NOx burners, OFA and SNCR. In his spare time, he developed a Windows based preprocessor for REI's Glacier code. Education Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, Brigham Young University, 1996 M.S., Mechanical Engineering, Jiangsu Institute of Technology, China 1987 B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Jiangsu Institute of Technology, China 1984Experience Senior Engineer, Reaction Engineering International, Salt Lake City, Utah (2002 - Present) Performed CFD analyses on pulverized coal-fired utility boilers Developed a methodology to improve CFD prediction for chemical process furnaces Senior Engineer, Foster Wheeler Power Group Inc. (2001 - 2002) Performed process simulations on a Vision 21 power plant design using Aspen Plus Developed a 1-D model for circulating fluidized bed coal gasifiers Member of Technical Staff, Blueflame Inc. (2000-2001) Worked as a principal Java developer on an intranet web application for Pfizer Inc. and an Internet web application for McGraw-Hill Companies Senior Development Engineer, Foster Wheeler Development Corporation (1996-2000) Modified and enhanced a 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software for numerical simulation of reactive multi-phase flow, heat transfer, pollutant (NOx, SOx) formation in large-scale utility furnaces on both Unix and Windows platforms. Developed a 3-D transient heat transfer code for the simulation of thermal performance in fluidized bed boilers during power outage. Used mainly Visual C++ and MFC for GUI, multi-threading, and 3-D graphic rendering. Used C++ for radiation heat transfer simulation based on discrete ordinate method and Fortran DLLs for convective heat transfer simulation. Developed a Windows program as a tool for large-scale boiler design based on normative methods. Used Visual C++ and MFC for GUI along with OpenGL for 3-D graphic rendering. Developed a multi-stream, flow-sheet-type Windows program in Visual C++ for material and energy balance calculations of general combustion and energy systems. Developed a user-friendly pre-professor of a company proprietary CFD code with graphic user interfaces for 3-D mesh generation item.
