Mr. Clevenger is President and Chief Executive Officer of Apex Silver. He has been in his current position with the company since October 2004. Prior to that he has had a distinguished career with two major American mining companies Cyprus Amax Minerals and Phelps Dodge Corporation. During his seven-year tenure with Cyprus Amax a large integrated producer of copper and molybdenum Mr. Clevenger served in various executive roles including President and Executive VP during the company’s expansion of copper production in Chile and Peru. Prior to Cyprus Amax Mr. Clevenger had a 19-year career with Phelps Dodge where he served as President of Phelps Dodge Morenci Inc. the 85%-owned joint venture subsidiary which operated the largest copper mine within Phelps Dodge.
Mr. Clevenger holds a B. Sc. in Mining Engineering with Honors from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and is a graduate from the Advanced International Senior Management Program of Harvard University. He is a member of the American Institute of Mining Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers.
