Jason Lief is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the New York office. As a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, Jason focuses his practice on patent and intellectual property litigation and counseling.
Jason has successfully represented clients in major patent litigations, including Hatch-Waxman cases involving billion-dollar pharmaceutical products and matters concerning other cutting-edge technologies. Jason’s extensive trial and litigation experience includes trying patent infringement, validity and enforceability issues before United States federal judges and juries, conducting direct and cross-examinations of inventors and technical experts at trial, arguing before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and managing and conducting all aspects of discovery, including foreign court appearances pursuant to the Hague Convention.
In addition to crafting winning arguments and winning cross-examinations in court, Jason counsels and advises clients in due diligence and opinion matters and speaks on patent law developments.
Jason’s matters span the technologies of organic chemistry, biotechnology, antibodies, combinatorial chemistry, RNAi technology, antibiotics, antidepressants and anti-ulcer medicines, as well as advanced battery systems and detergent and deodorant technologies. In addition, Jason has successfully enforced and settled patent cases involving nutraceutical health-supplements.

While in law school, Jason was the Notes Editor for the Cardozo Law Review. In addition, Jason holds a degree in Chemistry and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa as an undergraduate.
Jason is admitted to practice in the state of New York, several federal district courts, the United States Supreme Court and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
