With over 20 years of experience in the environmental area at both the state and federal level, Mr. Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge to any matter, whether it be administrative enforcement actions, assisting clients with permitting and other regulatory matters, or defending clients in toxic tort litigation in state and federal court. He regularly assists the real estate, bankruptcy, and mergers and acquisitions lawyers in the firm on environmental issues in those matters. He has also handled a number of OSHA matters, including several involving a death, trying several to successful, no-fault determinations. In the environmental area, Mr. Taylor's focus typically is on water and hazardous waste/Superfund matters. He has represented multiple clients in Clean Water Act citizen suits, Superfund and RCRA matters, both administratively and in litigation, and in toxic tort litigation. He has also served as common counsel for PRP groups in Superfund matters. Mr. Taylor also has a general commercial litigation practice, much of which is devoted to representing major consumer automobile finance companies and their related companies, as well as one of the national rental car companies, both on a variety of topics and cases. Representative Cases: Assisted one of the nation’s largest hazardous waste disposal facilities obtain its RCRA Part B permit. Settled 1 million member nationwide class action for an automobile finance company. Settled several state and nationwide class actions for a national rental car company. Successfully defended challenges to water discharge permits issued to several coal and coke clients. Acted as common counsel, including litigating against non-participating PRPs, regarding the Fuels & Chemicals Superfund Site. Represented PRPs in the Interstate Lead Company Superfund Site. Represent CAFO in Clean Water Act citizen suit. Represent major industrial interests in litigation (state and federal court), including class action toxic tort claims, arising out of lead and PCB contamination in the Anniston, Alabama area. Represent multiple PRPs in the Anniston Lead Site and Anniston PCB Site (federal Superfund). Currently serves, by appointment from the Governor, as Vice-Chair of the Alabama Land Recyling and Economic Redevelopment Act Commission. Prior To Maynard Cooper: Mr. Taylor clerked for Honorable Truman Hobbs, United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, 1982-1983.
