James M. Link (Lieutenant General U.S. Army, Retired), President of Teledyne Brown Engineering, has a wealth of experience in technology and systems modernization gained during a long and distinguished military career. Immediately prior to joining Teledyne Brown, he was Senior Vice President, Applied Technology Group at SAIC in Huntsville, Alabama.
General Link held numerous command and staff positions while on active duty. He served as Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Materiel Command from 1998-00. Prior to that, he was Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. He served as Commander, U.S. Army Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama (now Aviation and Missile Command) from 1994-97, and Deputy Commander, 21st Theater Army Area Command, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army from 1993-94. From 1992-1993, he served as the MICOM Deputy Commanding General. He also served at MICOM from 1986-89 as Director of the Materiel Management Directorate in what is now the Integrated Materiel Management Center. General Link has held various logistical, training, and staff assignments, including command positions during Operations Desert Shield and Storm. In Vietnam, he served as a company Commander in the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
General Link was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps in 1967 after completing an undergraduate degree at Methodist College and graduate study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has a master's degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee and attended the Harvard University JFK School of Government in 1995. His military education includes the Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He holds honorary doctorate degrees from Methodist College and The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
General Link serves on the following boards of directors: Association of the United States Army Advisory Board; Huntsville Chamber of Commerce; Committee of 100; Randolph School; Valley Foundation of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in Huntsville; Alabama Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education Coalition (Vice Chairman); Carleton Cove Retirement Community; and Dewey Electronics Corporation in Oakland, NJ. General Link serves on the Advisory Council of the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) College of Engineering, the Business Advisory Council of UAH College of Administrative Sciences, and the Oakwood College Advancement and Development Community Advisory Committee. Additionally, he serves as Chair of the SOLE 2003 Conference in Huntsville and was the Program Committee Chair for the Space and Missile Defense Conference 2002.
General Link is a member of the Huntsville Rotary Club; Association of the United States Army; National Defense Industrial Association; Army Space Missile Defense Association; Society of Logistics Engineers; Army Aviation Association of America; American Helicopter Society; Army Aviation Corridor of Excellence Executive Planning Board; and Huntsville Federal Agency Task Force. |
