James Gallen Biography :

Mr. Gallen is a Partner in the firm's Workers' Compensation Practice. Since 1979, he has concentrated his practice in the defense of Illinois Workers' Compensation and occupational disease claims. Mr. Gallen currently services the Workers' Compensation dockets in Belleville, Carlyle, Collinsville, Galesburg, Lawrenceville, Peoria, Quincy and Whittington on a regular basis. He has also handled numerous reviews before the Industrial Commission as well as in the Circuit, Appellate and Supreme Courts of Illinois.

Professional Activities:

Mr. Gallen has extensive experience handling Workers' Compensation matters in the agriculture, forestry and fishing, automotive, construction, education, finance, insurance and real estate, government, manufacturing, medical, mining, retail trade, services, transportation and public utilities, and wholesale trade industries. His case experience includes amputations, assaults and violent acts, back injuries, body system injuries, bruises and contusions, carpal tunnel syndrome, chemical burns, contact with objects and equipment, cumulative trauma, cuts and lacerations, falls, fatalities, fires and explosions, fractures, harmful substances or environments, head injuries, heart attacks, heat burns, infectious diseases, lower and upper extremity injuries, multiple traumatic injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, neck injuries, paraplegia/quadriplegia, permanent disability, poisoning, pulmonary disorders, respiratory conditions, skin diseases and disorders, sprains, strains, breaks, tears, tendonitis and transportation incidents.

Mr. Gallen has been a frequent lecturer on Workers' Compensation and the American with Disabilities Act at both local and national seminars. He has also served as chair of the organizing committees for two seminars on practical applications of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, he has held leadership positions in a number of professional organizations. Currently, he is a member of the Missouri Bar Association; Illinois State Bar Association; Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis; American Bar Association, Tort and Insurance Practice Section, Workers’ Compensation and Employee Law Committee, former committee chair; Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers; Saint Louis University Law School Alumni Association, former president and vice president; St. Thomas More Society; Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, assistant national counselor; and St. Louis Law Alumni Council. Past activities include Saint Louis University Law School, advisor to the dean and Dean’s Advisory Council; Defense Research Institute, Workers’ Compensation Committee; Illinois Self-Insurers Association, Legislative Committee; and The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies.

Interests:

Mr. Gallen enjoys spending time with his family, biking, tennis, swimming, geneology and cheering at Billikin basketball games. An avid historian and reader, he has written numerous historical articles and book reviews for Amazon.com.

Mr. Gallen is very active in the community. Currently he serves as a lector/commentator coordinator for St. Gerard Majella Parish and as a member of the board and treasurer of the Ste. Genevieve Chapter of the French Heritage Society. He is also a member of the Dean's Advisory Council of the St. Louis University School of Law and the Missouri Athletic Club. Mr. Gallen is an Assistant National Counselor of the Sons of Union Veterans Of The Civil War.

In the past, he has been involved with the Catholic Alumni Club, the advisory board of SSM Rehabilitation Institute, the parents advisory board for the Archdiocese of St. Louis' Department of Special Education, the Charter Campaign Leadership Committee and coaching for Majella Club.
