Experience:Jimmy’s service at Synovus Financial Corp. began in 1959 when he joined the company as a teller for Columbus Bank and Trust Company, Synovus’ Columbus, Georgia-based bank. He was promoted to President of CB&T in 1983 and Vice Chairman of the Board in 1992. He was elected President and Chief Operating Officer of Synovus Financial Corp. in 1998 and Chairman of the Board in 2003. Jimmy received an A.S. degree from Columbus State University in 1964 and, in 1987, he received the Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus award, the highest honor bestowed by the CSU Alumni Association. In 1997, Jimmy received the first Honorary Doctorate awarded by CSU. He is a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University.His leadership roles in the community have included serving as Campaign Chairman of United Way; President of Metropolitan Boys Club; Director of YMCA; Vice Chairman of the Southern Open; President of the Green Island Country Club; President of the Country Club of Columbus; President of Historic Columbus Foundation; Trustee of Brookstone School; Chairman of the Columbus State University Board of Trustees; Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Financial Services Roundtable and Director of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
