Career history: Greg utilizes a combination of management, business development, corporate development and legal experience to effectively oversee the day-to-day operations of Spark Networks. Prior to joining Spark Networks, Greg served as General Counsel for CytRx Corporation, a publicly-traded biotechnology company. In addition, in the past, he served in senior corporate development and legal roles at telecommunications provider, Global Crossing, and Internet infrastructure providers GlobalCenter and Exodus Communications. Greg started his career as an attorney in the Corporate & Securities Group at the headquarters office, in San Francisco, of international law firm Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP.
"For as long as I can remember, I've had an entrepreneurial streak. My first business venture was as a teenager - a baseball card business funded by two investors. Lucky for me, those investors (my parents) weren't looking for sky-high returns and were willing to let the CEO learn on the job. That and similar experiences created the foundation for my post-teenage career, where I've been really lucky to find myself in a number of terrific situations. I really got the opportunity to spread my wings at GlobalCenter where, in addition to serving in senior positions in the legal department, I also served as vice president of corporate development. There, I was able to immerse myself in many different areas of the business. As a big sports fan, one analogy I use to describe myself is that of a utility player on a baseball team - on any day, I'll fill in wherever necessary to help lead my team to a victory. Identifying problems is the easy part. Finding solutions is where I like to focus because that's where the challenge lies and challenges inspire me.
