Gregory Lacey Biography :

Mr. Lacey is a litigation member with the firm. He concentrates his practice in areas of commercial and employment litigation, consumer financial services and entertainment matters.

Mr. Lacey is also a member of Dykema's Recruiting and Diversity Committees.

Experience

After graduating from law school, Mr. Lacey was an Assistant District Attorney with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York. While an Assistant District Attorney, he also taught business law as an adjunct professor at the City University of New York. Upon moving to Chicago, he was engaged in civil litigation with law firms where he handled matters involving coverage litigation, labor disputes and constitutional violations. He was also an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the Law Department of the City of Chicago, in the Employment Litigation Division, where he litigated cases involving age, race, gender and disability discrimination.

Mr. Lacey has tried numerous state court cases in Illinois and New York, and federal court cases in the Northern District of Illinois. He has argued several cases before the Appellate Division of New York, and has also argued before the Illinois Appellate Court. Mr. Lacey has been a speaker at several legal seminars in Illinois and Michigan.

Significant Decisions

Metz v. Shell Oil Company, et al., 04 C 4673 (N.D. Ill. 2006), obtained jury verdict in favor of employer in employment discrimination case in which Plaintiff claimed that his discharge from his long-term employment with Defendant violated the Americans with Disabilities Act

Bradford v. City of Chicago, 308 F. Supp.2d 895 (N.D. Ill. 2004), successfully obtained summary judgment for defendant in action where plaintiff claimed race discrimination under Title VII, a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and failure to accommodate under the ADA

Covello v. City of Chicago, 02 C 151 (N.D. Ill. 2003), obtained trial verdict in favor of employer in employment discrimination case in which Plaintiff claimed he was wrongfully denied merit pay increases based on his national origin in violation of Title VII

Durkin v. City of Chicago, 199 F. Supp.2d 836 (N.D. Ill. 2002), successfully obtained summary judgment in favor of defendant where plaintiff alleged discrimination based on sex, gender and hostile work environment

Mr. Lacey is active in community and church activities, including serving as a sponsor with Link Unlimited, a not-for-profit organization that provides educational services and mentoring to economically disadvantaged African American youth from the Chicago area.

Mr. Lacey is also an active member of Life Changers International Church, where he participates in the prison outreach ministry.
