Greg Trefry Biography :

Greg Trefry Senior Game Designer Greg is interested in games big and small. After studying English and fiction writing at Northwestern University, Greg moved into interaction and data design. Working at the financial information company Loan Pricing Corporation, he designed and produced web sites. After one day staring at a database diagram too long he became obessessed with the ways information, systems and patterns create narrative and help people understand the world around them. From this psychosis, games were an obvious next step. Greg earned a Masters degree at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program where he focused a lot on games. The idea of rule sets grabbed hold of his brain and refused to let go, leading him to design experiments with everything from board games to large-scale urban games, like Payphone Warriors. He was one of the founders of the street games festival, Come Out & Play Festival. He has spoken at conferences about location-based games and taught workshops on game design. He is currently obsessed with modern office folk games. Greg's favorite games Basketball - Dr. Naismith's wonderful creation, designed to tire out kids hanging around the YMCA is an acrobatic wonder. From simply shooting baskets to banging out a game of 21, I know no better way to reach what Csikszentmihalyi called "flow." Throw the paper ball in the coffee cup I've wasted countlesss hours of my life on little office games like this. It seems utterly impossible, but somehow spending 9 hours a day at work makes it possible - that combined with the desire to destroy the egos of your co-workers. Advance Wars Everyone's favorite strategy game. Mine too. Settlers of Catan A wonderful board game. Well-balanced, with a consistent stream of interesting choices for all players. Psychonauts The beginning is a little weak. But once you're past the first level, I think this game shows great narrative really can exist in games. Burnout 3 Fun.
