Gordon has more than 22 years of consulting experience including 15 years of experience with healthcare provider organizations. His experience across both for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals has helped clients achieve millions of dollars of improvements in incremental cash and revenue.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron, Gordon was a Principal at Wellspring Partners, now a Huron Consulting Group Practice. While there, he led the Revenue Cycle Management practice of Wellspring Partners, which focused on net revenue improvement, cash acceleration and business process transformation.
Previously Gordon served as a Managing Director at BearingPoint (Formerly KPMG Consulting) and led their healthcare provider practice in the Western United States. Before that, Gordon was a Healthcare Consulting Partner with Arthur Andersen, in charge of its regional healthcare revenue management practice as well as its cross-industry finance and business operations practice.
Representative examples of Gordon's engagements experience include:
Served as Engagement Partner at multi hospital health system including a major academic medical center experiencing significant cash flow issues after years of profitability and major contributions to the School of Medicine. During a ten-month effort, approximately $45M of incremental cash was realized through an aggressive business office redesign program. Following this effort, intensive transformation changes were made to all areas of the revenue cycle including the business office, admitting, medical records, and bed control.
Served as Engagement Partner at a six-hospital system with a significant rise in its days in receivables after moving to a central business office. After a year of trying to internally resolve the issues that had been identified, an intensive cash acceleration and business transformation effort started as part of a broader turnaround effort. The project resulted in approximately $26M in incremental cash as well as a significant reduction in bad debt and administrative write-offs.
Served as Engagement Partner at a large provider organization building a central business services operation to accommodate more than 20 of its hospitals in multiple states. The transition to this model did not succeed because of various technical, logistical and political issues. An intensive effort was begun to "right size" the business services center, reduce the number of hospitals going into the center, transform the revenue cycle processes, and accelerate cash.
Served as Engagement Partner for the State of California. The state had sponsored the creation of managed care plans in various counties to serve the MediCal population in those counties. Such a plan was created (The Local Initiative) in Los Angeles County and a health plan was built from the ground up. Gordon led a team engaged to assist in developing the new health plan, from the hiring of the new CEO and his staff to the development of policies and plan model.
