Gerald D. Prothro is a board member of Nationwide Financial Services, Inc. (NFS), a part of Nationwide, a $161 billion diversified financial services organization based in Columbus, Ohio. NFS is the publicly traded holding company for Nationwide's long-term savings operation. He was elected to the NFS board in February 1997. He also serves on the boards of Nationwide Life Insurance Company and Nationwide Life and Annuity Insurance Company.
Mr. Prothro has served as managing director of IKT Investments, Ltd. since December 2000. He was senior vice president of technology for BroadStream Communications Corporation, and was managing director of IKT, Inc. from 1998 to 1999. Mr. Prothro retired from International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) as vice president-chief information officer and strategist in 1998. He joined IBM in 1969 and held numerous executive positions, including plant manager for the General Products Division, Data System Division vice president and Site General Manager, IBM director and secretary of Corporate Management Board, and IBM vice president of Information Systems and Telecommunications.
Mr. Prothro earned a B.S. in mathematics and physics and an M.S. in physics from Howard University. He completed postgraduate work in the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1975 and the Modern Engineering Program at UCLA in 1982. He has won numerous awards for his accomplishments.
He is a board member of FEDCAP Rehabilitation Services; friend of the Valhalla Partners LLC; trustee of Howard University and Chairman of the Board of Visitors for the College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Science; and member of the Corporate Advisory Board for Ralph Lauren Cancer Center. Mr. Prothro has served on the boards of The United Way of Tri-State, the National Technological University, Vassar College and the Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation. |
