Gary Dorst has nearly two decades of experience as a systems architect, user interface designer, and usability engineer. He has designed and managed design and implementation teams in the creation of cutting-edge user interfaces for computer and telecommunications systems.
Gary began his post-graduate school career working for Xerox PARC, but spent the greater part of his career at AT&T (now Lucent) Bell Laboratories. He has also worked with a variety of companies including MCI, Human Factors International, DST, and the Royal Bank of Canada. At Bell Laboratories, Gary successfully lead a team of software and hardware designers, engineers and subject-matter experts to create advanced telecommunications user interfaces for FAA air traffic controllers. At Human Factors International, he pioneered the creation of a telecommunications practice that became the companyís largest revenue source. In November 1996, he became a lead system architect with Fidelity Investments Systems where he lead teams in design and development of a new workflow and CRM system. He founded and later sold a technology company - based on his own patented technology - called Designed Input Devices. Gary was the Principle Investigator and primary author of the research section of Rosetta-Wirelessí successful NIST ATP grant proposal. Gary was a co-inventor of the updated WIPS system - the system now under research and development. He leads the technical team in itís endeavor to create this new system for demonstration and deployment.
Gary has published numerous articles in scientific and applied journals and has 5 U.S. and 5 international patents with 2 U.S. patents pending.
His patents cover the areas of telecommunications algorithms and computer-input devices. Garyís patented algorithms have been incorporated into Lucentís 5ESS switches, producing significant revenue for the company. His computer-input device technology will be incorporated into next generation military systems.
Gary has professional interests and skills in telecommunications software design, implementation and management, user-system interaction and intelligent, adaptive systems. In this role as Chief Technologist at Rosetta-Wireless Corporation, all these skills and interests have been tapped.
Gary completed his Bachelorís degree at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with additional graduate study in computer science and cognitive systems, and teacher education at California State University, Fullerton. Before entering graduate school in Illinois, Gary was a high school mathematics teacher. Garyís Master and Doctorate work was at the University of Illinois and Loyola University respectively and in cognitive systems and computer science.
Gary serves as Principal Investigator for the ATP Project.
In his spare time, Gary enjoys spending time with his family, running, bicycling, skiing - both cross-country and downhill - and backpacking in the mountains of the western US. Gary has recently acquired a new interest, acting, and plans some day to perform on stages (in small parts) around the Chicago area.
