Gary A. White is the GM North America vice president and vehicle line executive of General Motors' full size trucks. In this capacity, he has lead management and product development responsibility for the company's current and future products in the full size pickup and SUV markets, specifically light-duty and heavy-duty pickups marketed under the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra brands and full size sport utility vehicles marketed under the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Denali, Cadillac Escalade, and HUMMER H2 brands.
White was appointed vice president of GM North America in 2002.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on November 29, 1950, and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, White earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute (GMI), now Kettering University, in 1973. In 1991, he earned a master of science degree in management from Stanford University.
White joined GM at the former Fisher Body Division plant in Lordstown, Ohio. He subsequently transferred to Buick Motor Division where he had progressive supervisory engineering responsibilities for the division from 1969 through 1982.
In 1985, White was promoted to manager of program management for the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Group's Flint Automotive Division. He was named manager-chassis/HVAC systems in 1987, and then planning director for the division in 1991.
In 1993, White was named program director of large luxury cars for the Cadillac Luxury Car Division. He was promoted to general engineering and planning manager for the Oldsmobile Division in 1994.
White was appointed vehicle line executive of high-midsize cars in 1995 and oversaw the development and market introduction of the Chevrolet Impala, the position he held until his appointment as vehicle line executive of GM's full size trucks in 1999. |
