Frits Kool was appointed Vice President Strategy & Portfolio and CIO at Shell Global Solutions in 2001. His leadership responsibilities include the development of strategy and portfolio management, aspects of mergers and acquisitions, information management and IT, and corporate matters including HSE, quality, and compliance.
Earlier in his career, Frits worked for the two employer federations in the Netherlands (VNO and NCW), especially in the area of environmental legislation.
He joined Shell in 1980 as Senior HSE Advisor for Shell Nederlandand and later enjoyed commercial and senior management roles with Natural Gas in Shell Nederland (1985 - 1989), as CEO of Shell Zaire (1989 - 1991), Commercial Manager of Shell Nederland Verkoop, and Downstream and Chemicals Manager in Shell New Zealand (1993 - 1995).
In 1995, Frits joined the newly-formed South Zone in Oil Products (Latin America and Africa) as VP Strategy, Planning and Portfolio. He was involved in a number of new market entries and a comprehensive strategy review for the zone.
Frits has been instrumental in the global growth and organisation of Shell Global Solutions, the integration of Chemicals Technology and the alignment with CRI/Criterion within it.
He holds a degree in Law from the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands, where he specialised in European and economic aspects of law and in industrial relations. |
