Franklin W. Denius, 81, has served as chairman emeritus of Southern Union’s board of directors since 1990. He is chairman of the board’s Corporate Governance Committee and a member of its Audit and Independent Directors’ Committees. From 1986 to 1990, he served as Southern Union’s chairman, president and CEO.
At attorney at law, Denius has enjoyed a long and successful career in the energy industry. From 1974 to 1976, he served as chairman of the board of Aztec Oil and Gas Company. He also served on the boards of directors of Supron Energy Company, Delhi Taylor Oil Corporation and Delhi International Oil Corporation. In addition, he served as general counsel to Delhi Pipeline Corporation.
A World War II veteran, Denius was honored upon return from the European Theatre of Operations as one of the War’s most decorated soldiers. He received many prestigious awards for his courage and service, including the silver star with three oak leaf clusters; combat infantry badge; airborne wings; two purple hearts; presidential unit citation; World War II victory medal; American defense medal; army of occupation medal (Germany); French and Belgium Foragerre; and the European theatre ribbon with five battle stars.
Denius is a 1949 graduate of the University of Texas, where he received Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees. From 1942 to 1943, he attended the Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina. Denius is also a graduate of the Schreiner University, Texas.
Denius serves on the boards of directors of JP Morgan Chase, Austin; the Theo Davis Trust of Texas Foundation; the Texas A&M Heep Foundation; the Cain Foundation; and is co-chairman of the board of governors of the University of Texas Club. He also serves on the board and was past president of the University of Texas Foundation. Denius also serves on the University’s system development board and on the board of trustees of the Headliners Club. He is a member of the Athens Texas Chapter No. 55 R.A.M. Lodge and formerly served as chairman of the board of deacons, a member of the board of elders and a trustee of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
In 1991, Denius was presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Texas and over the years has been named in Who’s Who in America, American Politics, Commerce and Industry, the South and Southwest and Texas.
Denius resides in Austin, Texas.
