Experience:

Frank Blanchfield focuses on issues of federal and state taxation. He advises both publicly and privately held business clients in tax planning and audit representation and taxable and non-taxable mergers and acquisitions. In addition, he provides trial and appellate counsel on behalf of clients engaged in tax-related federal and state controversies.

Frank brings practical, in-depth experience to all aspects of his representation. Prior to joining Mayer Brown LLP in 1998, Frank held partnerships and senior positions with three other leading law firms in Georgia and North Carolina. From 1977 to 1980, he served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General (Appeals, Settlements and Legislation) for the Tax Division of the US Department of Justice after serving as Special Assistant to the Tax Division’s Assistant Attorney General. As a commissioned officer in the US Army, Frank taught Criminal and Military Law at the Army’s Military Police School. After graduating from law school, he served as Law Clerk to Judge Samuel Allcorn, Jr., of the New Jersey Superior Court (Chancery Division).

Frank is an active member of state and federal bar associations and has spoken at numerous professional seminars and symposia. He is prominently cited in Woodward and White’s peer-reviewed ranking of The Best Lawyers in America for tax. In 1980, he received The Attorney General’s Medal from then-US Attorney General Benjamin R. Civiletti for extraordinary contributions to the US Justice Department.

New York University, LLM, Taxation, 1974; President of the Student Bar Association, New York University School of Law, JD, 1970; Root-Tilden Scholar, Recipient, The Vanderbilt Medal (1970), College of the Holy Cross, BA, 1967; Recipient, George A. King Memorial Prize and Purse for graduating first in Political Science.
