Eugene C. Sit was elected to the board of directors for Smurfit-Stone in 2004. Sit serves as founder, chairman, chief executive officer (CEO) and chief investment officer (CIO) of the Minneapolis-based Sit Investment Associates (SIA), a diverse financial asset management firm that manages more than $6 billion in assets for institutional, family and mutual fund clients. Prior to founding SIA in 1981, Sit served as CEO and CIO of American Express/IDS Advisory. During his tenure, assets under management expanded rapidly and the firm compiled one of the superior performance records in the investment management industry. Born in Canton, China, Sit began his career at Commonwealth Edison in 1960, where he held various financial analysis positions. Sit is a trustee of TIAA/CREF and an advisory director of the Productivity Fund in Chicago. He has previously served as Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR). Sit is a recipient of the C. Steward Sheppard Award, given by AIMR in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the investment profession. Sit is both a Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Public Accountant. He earned a BSC degree from DePaul University. Additionally, Sit currently serves on the Advisory Board for the University of California, Walter A. Hass School of Business and is a trustee for Carleton College, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Minnesota Historical Society, the Minnesota Orchestral Association and the University of Minnesota, Carlson School.
