As Chief Medical Officer for Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS), Erik Steele, DO is responsible for promotion of quality of care, standardization where appropriate in clinical care, and clinical integration across the member organizations of EMHS. Dr. Steele also provides leadership in all areas of clinical service, including directing system-wide quality; clinical performance improvement; patient safety initiatives; and best practices in medical treatment.
Dr. Steele brings a unique and diverse set of perspectives to this work, having served in many capacities during his tenure at EMMC. During his career, he has worked as a physician in small and large hospital within the EMHS system and at non-system hospitals as well. As vice president of Patient Care Services at EMMC(?) his days were filled with decisions and details concerning the running of a hospital -- staffing, program development, quality improvement and process everything it takes to care for patients in a hospital. Even with his system role, Dr. Steele continues to see patients in the Emergency Departments of several area hospitals and at the EMMC Center for Family Practice. |
