Eric George is an urban forester with experience in both traditional forestry and urban forestry management projects using orthophotographs, topographical maps, and handheld data collection tools. He has served as the site manager for large-scale municipal street tree inventories in Springfield and Worcester, Massachusetts. Data were collected and presented in MCTI format, a community forestry benefits analysis tool developed by the U. S. Forest Service which gives Springfield and Worcester an effective way for managing the health of the urban forest while maintaining safety for its citizens. Via the MCTI data collection project, Mr. George gained comprehensive knowledge of ArcView 3.2 and Trimble Pathfinder Office software, as well as Trimble GPS field equipment and the differential correction process. Mr. George has extensive experience with the urban forest of New York City. From March-June, 2006, he worked on the Asian Longhorned Beetle Cooperative Eradication Program in New York City. In this position, he acted as a field technician and liaison to the USDA. From July-November, 2006, he oversaw a large-scale street tree census for the New York City Parks and Recreation Department. In this role, Mr. George supervised 8 field technicians who collected data on approximately 113,000 publicly owned trees in the Burroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island. Mr. George also has experience with land management, including monitoring the health of natural systems, observing and sustaining tree health, and safely using and maintaining heavy equipment and machinery. He has also supervised and trained other employees while serving as crew leader for U. S. Forest Service research projects in the southwest United States. Mr. George is a Certified Arborist (NE-6360A) through the International Society of Arboriculture. Mr. George graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry. |
