Emily Courtnage is a litigation associate who practices in the areas of complex business, securities, and class action litigation. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar, Multnomah Bar Association and the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. Emily, an Oregon native, graduated with honors from Yale University and earned her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before returning to Oregon to begin her legal career.

Emily co-authored a chapter on attorney fees and costs for the Oregon State Bar's Civil Pleading and Practice publication. She has also contributed to several other Continuing Legal Education materials and articles.

Emily and her husband, Andrew, have three young daughters. In her spare time, Emily enjoys running, skiing, reading, and gardening.

Represented numerous claimants in the damages phase of a Fair Labor Standards Act collective action.

Constitutional Law:

Represented university in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of an Oregon statute regulating degree claims. Legislative changes enacted in July 2005 pursuant to settlement agreement.

Employment:

Defended an employer in a federal lawsuit involving multiple employment-based claims.

Complex Business Litigation / Uniform Commercial Code:

Represented group of medical doctors in $5 million lawsuit against bank seeking refund of unauthorized online funds transfers made by group's controller. Was member of trial team in two and a half week jury trial. Settlement reached after trial.

Broker/Dealer Claims:

Represented several investors in actions before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) against investment advisors and brokers. Obtained favorable settlements on behalf of investors.

FINRA Regulatory Proceedings:

Represented a regional broker-dealer in regulatory proceedings related to mutual fund market timing.
