Lieutenant General Emil R. Bedard, retired from the United States Marine Corps in 2003 after an exemplary 37 year military career. In 1967, he served as a rifle platoon commander in Vietnam. He also served as Company Commander to the US Army Intelligence School in Okinawa, Japan. As a Colonel, he became Assistant G3 for the Marine Expeditionary Force during the Desert Shield and Desert Storm Operations.
In 1994, he was promoted to Brigadier General and served as President of the Marine Corps University. In 2000, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and served as Deputy Commander for Plans, Policies and Operations at Marine Headquarters, Washington, D.C. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, to name a few.
