Edward (Ned) Wheeler is the President and Chief Operating Officer of FBR Investment Management, Inc. (FBRIM) and Head of the FBR Asset Management Group. Mr Wheeler is also portfolio manager for FBRIM’s fund of funds vehicles.
Mr. Wheeler’s background includes 16 years of investment management and analysis experience. He was previously the Managing Director of FBR Merchant Banking where he successfully managed FBR Group’s own portfolio of equity and fund investments. During Mr. Wheeler’s tenure as Managing Director of Merchant Banking from June 30, 2002 through June 30, 2005, the Firms’ Merchant Banking equity and bridge loan investments totaled over $400 million and achieved an internal rate of return of greater than 30% while generating realized gains and dividend income exceeding $130 million.
Prior to assuming responsibility for the Firm’s principal investing activities, Mr. Wheeler co-managed two private equity partnerships.
Before managing these funds, Mr. Wheeler held dual roles as a Managing Director for Investment Banking and Private Equity. During 1994 and 1995, Mr. Wheeler ran the Firm’s high yield trading and research desk. Prior to this position, Mr. Wheeler was Senior Analyst for special situations. Mr. Wheeler joined FBR in 1989 becoming a junior analyst for banks and thrifts and in 1991 an analyst focusing on mortgage banking, real estate and specialty finance companies.
Mr. Wheeler was a shareholder of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co, Inc. prior to its December 1997 initial public offering, and remains a current shareholder of the Firm.
Mr. Wheeler received a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Virginia. |
