Edward Phillips Biography :

Edward J. Phillips is chairman and CEO of Phillips Beverage Company, a holding company, which owned Millennium Import LLC until its sale to Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH) in April of 2005.

Phillips holds a BA degree from Stanford University and both an MA and a law degree from the University of Minnesota. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

In addition to his membership on the board of Children’s, Phillips is the founder of The Jay Phillips Center for Jewish-Christian Learning at St. John’s University and the University of St. Thomas and is a member of both its board of directors and executive committee. He also serves on the advisory committee of the Givens Collection of African American Literature at the University of Minnesota. Phillips serves as a founding member of the advisory board of the Page Education Foundation and is a board member for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium. He serves with great pleasure as a trustee of Breck School which his children attend. Active participation in civic and humanitarian projects is an important part of Phillips life, and he serves as a trustee of The Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation, a charitable foundation established by his grandparents in 1944, and recently established in 2004 The Edward and Leslye Phillips Family Foundation. Venture philanthropy is very important to Phillips, as evidenced by his long-standing involvement with the Worldwide Orphans Foundation and the Apollo Theater.

Phillips is a former member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and formerly held board positions with the American Cancer Society, Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, Minnesota Orchestra, University of Minnesota Foundation, the YMCA, The Guthrie Theater Foundation, area chairperson of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Campaign, the board of regents of Saint John’s University, Venturian Corporation, Minnesota AIDS Project, AMICUS, Jeremiah Project, First Trust, U.S. Bank, Phillips Eye Institute and Mt. Sinai Foundation, and served for seven years as an executive mentor for the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management.

Phillips is a past recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for the Minneapolis chapter of the Jaycees, was selected by the Jaycees for their Ten Outstanding Young Men in Minnesota Award, and was honored as one of the twenty outstanding young men in the United States. In 2001, the president of Poland, Aleksander Kwasniewski, presented Phillips with Poland's most significant civilian award.
