Edward A. Friedman's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including bankruptcy, employment, and securities litigation. His trials, in which he served as lead counsel, include representation of a media company in an employment discrimination lawsuit in federal court in California, a well-known financial institution in litigation in bankruptcy court in New York concerning a leveraged lease transaction, a major defense contractor in arbitration involving termination of a foreign sales organization, and an international law firm defending against claims by a former partner.
Mr. Friedman has represented a litigation trust for the benefit of creditors and shareholders of a well-known company in a case against the former controlling shareholder of the company, a fund manager defending against breach of fiduciary duty claims by investors, and a publishing company facing Lanham Act and other claims. He has also represented corporations or their boards in internal investigations, partners and principals in investment, real estate, and other business ventures in a wide variety of negotiations, litigations, and dissolution proceedings, and a court-appointed Chapter 11 trustee for the preparation of a report and conduct of litigation in bankruptcy proceedings arising out of a failed securitization and public issuance of bonds.
Mr. Friedman graduated from Yale College in 1971 and from Harvard Law School in 1974, both with honors. In addition to his practice, Mr. Friedman serves as a court-appointed mediator in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He has been a member of the Committee on Federal Courts of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Intellectual Property Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Litigation. In recent years, Mr. Friedman has been a panelist at the New York Law Journal Seminars-Press conference on Employment Law and Litigation and the American Bankruptcy Institute New York City conference on bankruptcy litigation. |
