Ed Prohofsky begins his first season as a member of the Lynx coaching staff in 2006 following years of experience in the professional, college and high school levels. He joins Lynx Head Coach Don Zierden, who he coached with on the Minnesota Timberwolves staff. Coach Prohofsky joined the Macalester College staff in 2004-05 following seven years as an assistant to Flip Saunders with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He began his coaching career in 1957 as head basketball coach at the Killeen Base of the United States Army in Texas, where his team won the 4th Army Championship. Prohofsky became head basketball coach at Marshall-University High School of Minneapolis (where he spent 17 years coaching everything from basketball to football to track) and compiled a 140-10 record, including a 53-game winning streak from 1974-80. In 1976, Prohofsky led Marshall-University to the Minnesota State High School Class A Championship. Prohofsky worked as an assistant on Saunders' staff at Golden Valley Lutheran College for the 1980-81 season. The team went undefeated until the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. From 1981-89, Prohofsky coached at Hamline University of St. Paul, Minnesota. He has been rewarded for his long and successful coaching career by being named a Hall of Fame member of the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association, the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association, the Minnesota State High School League and the Minnesota State High School Athletic Directors. Prohofsky lives in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, with his wife, Joyce. The couple has four children, Richard, Sheryl, Susan and Pamela. |
