Douglas Richardson Biography :

Douglas A. Richardson serves mCapitol Management as Vice President. He has extensive experience in developing and assisting with legislative and communications strategies and lobbying efforts for Fortune 500 companies. He has also advised a number of investment groups on political and legislative issues at the federal and state levels and helped multinational corporations identify infrastructure investment and management opportunities. Prior to joining mCapitol, Mr. Richardson served as Director of Government Relations for the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, based in the Washington, D.C. office. As a member of the Government Strategies Group, Mr. Richardson represented clients before Congress and federal government agencies. He also advised clients on matters before governors, state legislatures, mayors, city councils and other local elected bodies. Mr. Richardson also served as Executive Director and Director of Policy and Communications for the Democratic Governors’ Association. In those roles, he coordinated political and fund-raising activities, framed political and contribution strategies for elections and provided advice on political issues, campaign communications and media strategy to governors and gubernatorial candidates in all 50 states. In addition to being the DGA’s principal contact with national and regional media, he also served as liaison to the White House, Democratic Congressional caucuses and the Democratic National Committee. Before entering politics, Mr. Richardson was the political editor and Statehouse correspondent for The Associated Press in Indiana. During his seven years in that role, he became the most widely read political reporter in the state, reaching readers of more than 70 newspapers across Indiana and in border states. His weekly Capitol Eye column was featured on opinion pages across Indiana, and his coverage of regulatory, judicial and legislative issues also gained wide exposure. In addition, he wrote internationally distributed AP dispatches on the political career of Dan Quayle, the saga of teen-age AIDS victim Ryan White and the rape trial of boxing champion Mike Tyson. He also appeared as a regular moderator on the PBS television series Indiana Lawmakers and as a panelist for gubernatorial and U.S. Senate debates on statewide television. Before joining the AP, he edited newspapers in New Castle, Knightstown and Seymour, Indiana. A graduate of Yale University, Mr. Richardson has lectured on journalism, government and politics at Indiana University at Bloomington, DePauw University, Ball State University, Indiana-Purdue University at Indianapolis, Franklin College and American University.
