Don Solsby is a career commercial banker with more than fifteen years as chief executive officer of community-based business banks in Orange County.
Mr. Solsby began his banking career in Union Bank’s credit training program. It was at Union Bank where he met Larry Luckey, now Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Plaza Bank. In 1974, Mr. Solsby was named President of the Union Bancorp Leasing Corporation and a Senior Vice President and Manager of Union Bank’s Equipment Leasing Division. Mr. Solsby later became the Regional Vice President of Union Bank’s San Gabriel Valley Region, headquartered in Pasadena.
Mr. Solsby moved to Orange County in 1979 when he was named Regional Vice President of Imperial Bank’s Orange County Region, headquartered in Costa Mesa, and renewed his collegial association with Mr. Luckey, who joined Imperial Bank a year earlier.
In 1983 Mr. Solsby was recruited to become the President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Pacific National Bank in Newport Beach, serving in that capacity until 1990. At that time, Mr. Solsby assumed the same position at American Interstate Bank in Newport Beach until the bank was sold in 1993. With the sale of AIB complete, he moved to the Bank of Westminster, serving in the same post until that bank sold in 1996.
From 1996 through 1999, Mr. Solsby was a Vice President and Partner of MetroGroup Realty Finance in Newport Beach. Returning to banking, Mr. Solsby became a Regional Vice President for Mellon 1st Business Bank until leaving to form Plaza Bank in 2005.
Mr. Solsby is a member of The Round Table of Orange County, Santa Ana Country Club and The Newport Harbor Yacht Club. During his tenure in Orange County he has served on the board of many community service organizations and non-profit corporations, including The Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce, The Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts of America and The Council on Aging Orange County, for which he served as President of the Board of Directors and Treasurer. Solsby is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Cystinosis Research Foundation in Irvine. Mr. Solsby earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Real Estate Finance from San Diego State University. He and his wife, Zoe, reside in Irvine and have three children and two granddaughters. |
