Derrick Martin Biography :

Transactions:

Derrick Martin was selected with the 208th overall selection in the 6th round of the 2006 Draft, which was one of the Ravens' 4 compensatory picks...Martin is the 1st player in Ravens franchise history to be selected out of Wyoming.

Highlights:

Versatile DB who can play both inside and outside...Totaled 134 tackles (92 solo), 21 PD, 6 INTs (1 returned for a TD), 3 FRs, 2 FFs and 2 sacks at Wyoming...Played in 30 games, starting 24 at Wyoming...He also returned 6 KOs for 135 yards (22.5 avg.) and blocked 3 punts, returning 2 for TDs.

Pro Career:

"Derrick Martin is a corner, and it's very hard to get corners on the 2nd day of the draft," said director of college scouting Eric DeCosta. "He's very, very athletic. You'll be hard-pressed to find a corner in this year's draft that tested better in Indy. He's got unbelievable feet and he's very fast. He can jump out of the building. He's very good when the play is in front. He's outstanding on special teams. He's a very good gunner. He's blocked kicks and with his size and speed, he's a tremendous value in the latter half of the 6th round."

College Career:

2005: Named All-Mountain West honorable mention as a junior, leading a defense that finished 1st in the conference in pass defense (207.4 ypg)...Posted 47 tackles, including 32 solo, 3.5 TFL and a sack (-6 yards)...Also had 7 PD and 3 INTs as a senior...Martin added a 26-yard KO return.

2003: Had an immediate impact as a freshman, playing in 7 games, starting 4, finishing the season with 27 tackles, including 17 solo and 2 FRs...Began his collegiate career with a splash as he returned a blocked punt 6 yards for a TD in the season opener vs. Montana State...Martin also blocked a punt of his own against Oklahoma State...Broke his left hand in the 2nd game of the season at Oklahoma State, but he came back to play in the final 5 games of the season, starting 4...Posted 7 tackles in his 1st game back at San Diego State...Martin also blocked a punt vs. Oklahoma State.
