Dennis Unkovic is a partner with Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP. He is responsible for corporate and international matters, including advising foreign companies and individuals in the United States as well as American companies that conduct international operations. Mr. Unkovic previously served in Washington, D.C. as the Legislative Director for Hugh D. Scott, former United States Senate Minority Leader; he simultaneously served as Assistant Counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Patents, Trademarks and Copyrights.Mr. Unkovic primarily focuses on negotiating complex business transactions with particular emphasis in three areas. First, he handles mergers, divestitures, joint ventures, strategic alliances, acquisitions and technology licensing relationships within the United States and between American and foreign companies. His most recent book, Beyond the Japanese Style Management: The Last Survival Strategies In The 20th Century (Tokyo, Japan: Diamond, Inc., 1995), discusses what steps Japanese companies should adopt in their internal restructuring efforts in order to become more effective multinationals. Second, he is active in the areas of technological innovation, intellectual property and technology transfer. Mr. Unkovic authored The Trade Secrets Handbook, which was targeted to American and foreign corporate executives. This book presents strategies and techniques for protecting and transferring technology with an emphasis on the emerging importance of trade secrets. It was subsequently translated and published in Chinese, Japanese and Serbo-Croatian. Finally, Mr. Unkovic works closely with American companies, financial institutions, not-for-profit entities, and trade associations in managing their domestic and international activities.Mr. Unkovic is frequently invited to speak to business, academic and government leaders on current trends in international issues such as technology transfer, structuring strategic alliances, research and development, joint ventures, intellectual property, venture capital and counter-trade. Since 1984 he has given presentations on these topics in the United States, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Finland, Germany Switzerland, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Italy, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Bahamas.Mr. Unkovic received his bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is affiliated with numerous courts, non-profit and professional organizations. Mr. Unkovic is a prolific writer and has authored four books and numerous other publications. |
