Mrs. Blair is a long standing and effective advocate for biomedical research and for the advancement of global health care. Her impressive background in both the public health sector and the private medical research community makes her an ideal advisor to Xeno.
Biography
Mrs. Blair is Vice President and Director Emeritus of the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation. She worked closely with Mrs. Lasker on the Citizens Committee for the Conquest of Cancer. Together they initiated one of the most successful public health outreach campaigns, The National Campaign Against High Blood Pressure which sought to educate the public concerning the need for blood pressure screening involving a collaboration of federal Health Agencies, pharmaceutical companies and the Advertising Council.
Mrs. Blair is Secretary and a director of the Foundation for the National Institute of Health. The Foundation is active in a range of Public/Private Partnerships including the Gates Foundations Grand Challenges in Global Health to the recently announced Genetic Association Information network and the Alzheimer Imaging Project.
Mrs. Blair is Co-Chairman of the Harvard Aid Initiative International Advisory Council and is a member of the Harvard AIDS Institute Policy Board. She serves as an Advisor to the Department of Immunology and Infectious Disease and is a member of the Advisory Board to the Department of Infectious and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School. She is also a member of the Board of Scripps Research Institute.
Mrs. Blair has served as a Member of the Visiting Committee of the Harvard School of Public Health and as a Member of the National Advisory Council of the Dana Farber Cancer Institutes Women’s Cancers Program, and on the Board of the American Cancer Society. She is an advisor to the venture capital partnership of HealthCare Ventures, Member of their Scientific Advisory Board, and has consulted for several biotech companies.
From 1986 to 2005, Mrs. Blair served as a consultant to the head of research or Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation (formerly Sandoz). The focus was on biotech relationships and academic alliances. During this period, she worked on projects in the fields of transplantation, osteoporosis, oncology, gene therapy and infectious disease. |
