Debra M. McCulloch is an attorney with over 25 years of experience in employment law and litigation, including privacy protection, international employment law and commercial litigation. Located in the firm's Bloomfield Hills Office, she represents private and public employers, including many Fortune 500 companies.
Her experience in employment-related matters includes successfully defending clients in cases involving harassment, discrimination, wrongful discharge, torts and class actions. She has experience in representing clients before administrative agencies including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
Her clients represent a broad range of industries and include companies in the food and beverage, retail, delivery/logistics, information services, energy and automotive sectors as well as universities and hospitals. She credits living abroad for two years and earning an LL.M. in international law from the University of London, London School of Economics for her ability to deliver creative, practical legal solutions with a global perspective.
Ms. McCulloch defended one of the world's largest retail chains against an alleged breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation in connection with an employee's termination. She acted as local counsel in this high-profile case that received intense media coverage. In a case involving an employee's termination, her motion for summary judgment, based on the plaintiff's failure to substantiate the claims against a major food and beverage company, resulted in a settlement very favorable to the defendants.
In addition to litigation matters, Ms. McCulloch provides counsel on employment compliance and best practices. She is a frequent lecturer and trainer on privacy protection, identity theft, Sarbanes-Oxley, whistleblower laws and electronic communication issues in the workplace.
She serves on Dykema's Diversity Committee, is a member of the planning committee for the Detroit Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, and is active in a number of community organizations. |
