Deborah Ben-Canaan has been a managing director in Major, Lindsey & Africa's San Diego office since June 2001. She places attorneys with prominent law firms and corporate legal departments in Southern California and across the country.
She specializes in in-house search placement at all levels, including general counsel. Representative corporate clients include: Nestle, Hitachi Home Electronics, Public Storage, ITT Industries, Northrop Grumman, New Century Financial, James Hardie Industries and Advanced Bionics among others. Additionally, Deb has an expertise in government searches, successfully placing general counsel at the Unified Port District of San Diego and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
Deb also has a record of matching lawyers at the partner, counsel and associate levels with top area and national law firms, including Morrison & Foerster, Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, Fish & Richardson, and Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton among others.
Deb was born and raised in Maryland and has been in San Diego since 1997. She received her B.S. in marketing, with high distinction, from the Pennsylvania State University in 1993, and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Washington College of Law, the American University, in 1996. She was a finalist in her law school moot court competition, and was voted Best Oral Advocate on the East Coast in the Saul Lefkowitz moot court competition.
Deb began her legal career as an associate practicing general civil litigation in the San Diego office of Gordon & Rees. From 1999 through 2001, she was a business litigation associate with the well-established San Diego-based law firm, Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch. Deb was involved in the firm's summer associate recruiting program and assisted in the firm's lateral recruiting process.
Deb is an avid Penn State football fan and spends much of her free time with her husband, Matt, their daughter and their dog. |
