Deborah has over 17 years of experience in internal controls internal audit and consulting with all levels of client management including financial operational compliance risk and control design. She primarily works with clients to develop opportunities to identify risk and strengthen controls throughout the organization in order to achieve management's strategic objectives. She has worked effectively with clients to successfully implement the Internal Audit function Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance efforts and Risk Assessment activities into the management process. In addition Deborah has experience developing risk assessment activities that encompass unique risk situations posed in transaction processing outsourced vendor's reliance and regulated environments.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron Deborah provided Internal Auditing and Sarbanes-Oxley services at Callaway Partners. Before working in Professional Services Deborah was an Industry Director of Internal Audit. Her expertise at developing Internal Auditing functions from the "ground-up" has enabled her to service a suite of clients and industries with unique enterprise risk management strategies and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.
Representative examples of Deborah's engagement experience include:
Scoping and Planning Assistance for Sarbanes- Oxley Compliance for two leading for-profit healthcare systems. Both were in the process of implementing compliance while undergoing acquisitions within the fiscal year. This included engagement and project management and control guidance for diagnostic reviews of internal controls throughout significant business processes.
Engagement Project Management for Sarbanes- Oxley for various clients throughout management's implementation of their compliance effort. Oversight and guidance included project management activities steering committee attendance and oversight of documentation and remediation teams.
Created a strategic risk assessment for a leading health system to provide comprehensive recommendations and observations to formalize enterprise risk assessment and consistent risk ranking throughout the system. Similar risk assessments have been performed within multiple industries (financial services public sector and not-for-profit).
Developed continuous risk assessment model and methodology to be utilized to identify risks throughout client organizations in order to perform risk based internal auditing. Relationship Manager on implementation of Risk Management & Internal Control function for not-for-profit to include definition of gross risks and development and design of entire Audit Compliance and Self Assessment functions through Shared Services Center.
Completed Quality Assurance Reviews (QAR) with reliance on three key aspects; People Process and Technology for not for profit internal audit shop providing detailed analysis and recommendation for improvements in relation to comparison to current Internal Auditing standards for the professional practice and a comparison to risk based auditing approach.
Performed systemic reviews for process driven analysis for the purpose of determining control gaps and exposures to be utilized in process re-design to include strengthened internal controls and streamlined efficient processes (accounts payable accounts receivables).
