Dean Biersch, co-founder of Gordon Biersch Brewing Company, has guided the brewery restaurant company he started with brewing engineer Dan Gordon making it a leader in the industry. As Vice President of Development for the company's twelve Brewery Restaurants, he is responsible for the company's real estate and development activities. Additionally, Biersch is responsible for creating the look and feel of Gordon Biersch from graphic design and merchandise design to the dining experience and atmosphere that sets Gordon Biersch apart from its competition.
Biersch develops and oversees a menu of fresh food items that complements the signature lagers Gordon Biersch brews on-site. Offerings include a diverse selection of contemporary dishes that draw from regional products and are accented by international flavors. The longtime restaurateur also developed the contemporary, sophisticated, and casual atmosphere that makes each restaurant, brewery and beer garden so inviting. While locations endeavor to create Gordon Biersch's special brand of hospitality, individual locations vary from conversion of a historic movie theatre and a coffee roasting and packing facility to new freestanding properties where the Bauhaus style brewery meets old San Francisco warehouse!
Biersch brings a wealth of industry experience to the company. Starting as a fryer cleaner when he was 15, he made the classic progression to busser, server, cook, manager, and business owner. Career highlights include serving hors d'oeuvres to Ray Bolger, dinner to Princess Grace, and working as a breakfast cook in a ski resort (so he could ski in the afternoons).
In 1987 Biersch teamed with brewing engineer Dan Gordon and a year later they opened the first Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in downtown Palo Alto.
Biersch, like his partner, is a Northern California native. Born in San Francisco he grew up in Chico and attended high school in Los Angeles. He earned a degree in International Relations with a minor in International Business from San Francisco State University. Biersch and his wife currently reside in Las Vegas with their three children. |
