Specialty: Medical Oncology We are pleased to announce the association of Dean H. Gesme, Jr., MD with our practice of Medical Oncology in our Minneapolis Clinic as of June 1, 2006. He comes to us from Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he has been engaged as Managing Partner in a private oncology practice since 1982. In addition to significant clinical accomplishments in Medical Oncology, Dr. Gesme has served in a variety of leadership roles with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and at local and national levels of the American Cancer Society (ACS) as well as with the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the national Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, and has served as Chair of that organization. He is a prolific author who has published research and contributed topical articles to a wide range of professional journals and textbooks. Dr. Gesme and his wife, Laura, have three daughters and three grandsons. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, biking and tennis and music. Professional Education Dr. Gesme received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at U. S. Public Health Service Hospital in San Francisco, California followed by a clinical fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Minnesota which he finished in 1982. Dr. Gesme also held a faculty Appointment as a Post-doctoral Associate in Medical Oncology at the University of Minnesota. Certifications Dr. Gesme holds board certification in Internal Medicine, and Medical Oncology. He is also a certificated as a Physician Executive (CPE) conferred by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management. Membership Dr. Gesme is a member of several professional affiliations - American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Internal Medicine, American College of Physician Executives-Elected to Fellow Status 2000 (FACPE) and is past-President of the Iowa Oncology Society. Research Affiliations Dr. Gesme has served as the Assistant Principal Investigator for the Cedar Rapids Oncology Project from 1987 to the present; He is also a member of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABBP), and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG). He has served as Principle Investigator of NCCTG Protocol 88-24-52, Phase II Randomized Study of Amonafide vs. Trimetrexate in the Treatment of Stage IV Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.Primary Location:Minneapolis. |
