David has close to 30 years of experience in software development, architecture, and project management. His latest projects all involve using a multiple of these disciplines. The results are to over deliver quality to his clients on a consistent basis. After starting his career as a member of the United States Air Force, where he won the USAF Accommodation Medal for his work in combat communications and computer programming, he moved on to the corporate world joining Electronic Data Systems (EDS) at a time when the company was being acquired by General Motors. Between leading a small team within one of the largest IT automation projects in history [1], and the company’s transition from its Ross Perot roots, the lessons learned were more valuable than anyone could have imagined. The EDS experience opened doors at many other companies, and the next 15 years combined multiple skills leading small and medium project teams; by providing both the architecture and the project management. David spent the next 10 years holding more and more senior positions at companies, always by combining both an Architecture and Project Management approach to IT projects, to support and enable the business. From Technical Group Manager of the Columbus Ohio region for Cambridge Technology Partners, to Chief Architect at Claremont Technology Group, the projects he led increased in size, duration, and budget. After taking a short sabbatical [2], David returned to restart his own consulting company originally formed in 1984, Softstar Research, Inc. Since then he has worked for numerous clients both in the private sector and public, including the SACWIS [3] project for the State of Oregon, and the CalPERS-VISA [4], Service Orientated Architecture project for the State of California (CalPERS). * Largest at that time; $365 million was the starting number. Eventually growing to almost 1 billion, the success of the GMT-400 Plant Automation Project set the standard for automation projects for years to come. *Owned a coffee shop for a bit *SACWIS is the Child Welfare Information System for the state of Oregon. *CalPERS-VISA is the California Public Employees Retirement Systems; Virtual Information Systems Architecture. A customized Service Orientated Architecture leveraging legacy systems and providing an architectural foundation for another ongoing IT project ($200 million dollar PSR project).
