David Hadorn specialises in healthcare evaluation, critical appraisal of research literature, cost-effectiveness analysis, and health services research.
David received his MD from the University of California in 1976. He worked in hospital accident and emergency departments for 12 years, and in 1988 he received a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Colorado. His thesis dealt with healthcare and distributive justice.
David then completed a two-year fellowship in health services research at RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California, which was followed by consultant positions with the US Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, Oregon Health Services Commission, British Columbia Office of Health Technology Assessment, British Columbia Ministry of Health, New Zealand Ministry of Health, and New Zealand Health Funding Authority, where he served as chief advisor for research and policy. David served as project director for the New Zealand Priority Criteria Project (NZPCP) and research director for the Western Canada Waiting List Project (WCWL). In 2002 he received a PhD degree in philosophy from Victoria University, Wellington. His doctoral dissertation concerned the philosophy of science underlying healthcare evaluation.
David has published more than 60 articles and book chapters on issues related to healthcare evaluation, and has performed or directed dozens of comprehensive literature reviews. These include numerous reviews concerning aspects of management of heart failure, conducted while project director of a national clinical practice guideline at RAND Corporation; several reviews performed while at British Columbia Office of Health Technology Assessment, including review of prostate specific antigen, routine ultrasound during pregnancy, and anticoagulation for patients with atrial fibrillation; several primarily surgical reviews for the New Zealand Priority Criteria Project and Western Canada Waiting List Project; and eight reviews of physical activity interventions for primary and secondary prevention and treatment of conditions such as cancer and heart disease for Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) while working with LECG. David also recently completed a comprehensive review of issues related to cervical cancer screening programmes. |
